miVac Speed Trap

miVac SpeedTrap™ is a unique frost free cold trap.

The SpeedTrap™ is suitable for use with a wide range of solvents, from volatile organic solvents through to water and some of the higher boiling point solvents. Whilst it is designed to compliment the miVac series of vacuum concentrators it can also be used with other vacuum concentrators, provided that the solvents concentrated are compatible. The more recent versions of the SpeedTrap can be used as a freeze drier, either as a stand alone low volume freeze drier or, as a combination system when used with one of the miVac concentrators.

Unlike traditional cold traps, the miVac SpeedTrap™ has the coolant pumped through the vapour flow from the concentrator. The vapours condense directly on the coiled pipes containing the refridgerated coolant, and then drop down into the insulated collecting jar below. Even when concentrating water, only an ice shell forms on the coils, the majority of the water collects as a liquid in the jar. The SpeedTrap can be used with volatile orgainc solvents, and with water. When collecting organic solvents switch the system into 'continuous' cooling mode for optimum organic solvent recovery.
Continuous mode also enables upto 250ml of water to be freeze dried, either in the miVac concentrator, or directly in the SpeedTrap using the miVac Lyo freeze drying accessory kit.
When working with water, switch the system into periodic defrost so that a large block of ice does not accumulate on the coils and impede performance. The SpeedTrap can be used with the miVac concentrator range or with many other systems.
